Sr. Pastor Zach Schlegel – December 16, 2020
Announcement

Mid-week Announcements on December 16, 2020

1) Mid-week devotional – As we continue on in our series on wisdom (living skillfully in God’s world), we return to the Proverbs. Today, Pastor Tyrone leads us through Proverbs 27:17 which zeroes in on wisdom for friendships, encouragement, and what it means to ‘sharpen’ each other.

2) FBCUM Prayer Meeting, December 16th, at 6:30 PM (ZOOM only) – Lord willing, we plan on having a churchwide prayer tonight at 6:30 PM on ZOOM. Please mark your calendars as we come together to praise God, cast our burdens on Him, and ask Him for all we need. If you have any questions, please contact the church office.

3) Testimony of Grace – This past week we interviewed Mike and Crystal Whittaker who took up the challenge to memorize the book of James this past Fall. Take a moment, listen to the interview, and be encouraged. Perhaps more than ever, we’re reminded of the importance of hiding God’s word in our heart so that wherever we are we can pick up the sword of the Spirit (Eph. 6:17).

Even though we’re done studying James, it’s not too late to memorize it or keep going. Check out this guide to see the schedule for each path, various tools to help you memorize, and other encouragements. If you’re finished with James, pick up your next chunk or Scripture to memorize like Romans 8, Psalm 27, or another book!

4) Christmas Eve Service – This year we will be recording our Christmas Eve service with Scripture Readings, Songs led by our band, and a sermon from Pastor Tony Edwards. We plan to post it on YouTube on the evening of Christmas Eve. So, make plans to listen, sing, and celebrate the coming of Christ with family and friends wherever you may be.

5) Book Recommendation: On the Incarnation, by St. Athanasius (and introduction by C.S. Lewis).

6) Disaster Relief Volunteer Opportunity – In September, there was a severe rainstorm that caused widespread flooding in a number of homes in Prince George’s County. Our Disaster Relief team is helping out these families with flood recovery (removing damaged drywall, cleaning, etc.) in an effort to help them get back up on their feet, share the love of Christ and the good news. For those interested in helping out you can find out more information and sign up here: SignupGeniusDCsuburb, and contact the church office with questions.

7) Indoor Meeting Plans: Lord willing, we will continue to meet indoors for the duration of the winter season. You can find out our plans for meeting indoors by reading the Indoor gathering FAQ sheet. Please note, we plan to continue to offer the live-stream option for the duration of COVID-19. If you have any questions, please contact the church office with any questions.

8) FBCUM Playlist – Check out the playlist on the resources section of our church’s website. We’ve collected all the songs we’ve recorded over the last several months for our edification and encouragement:  FBCUM Worship Songs

9) Giving We encourage you to continue to faithfully give as a way to sustain the gospel ministry at FBCUM and as a means for us to care for those in need as a church family. You can give online or mail in your offering to the church office. Church members who have a benevolence request, please contact the church office at [email protected].
