When a parent wants to assess a child’s development, they may have a doctor look at different criteria to check the health and development of that child. What are the criteria to assess spiritual growth? If you were asked, “How are you doing spiritually; are you growing?” You may share that you read your Bible daily and pray. While that is good, it is not enough. You may know the Bible, but are you obeying God’s command to love your neighbor?
What about the church? How does one assess how a church is doing? What if there is more to it than just what is preached or taught? A church may be a Bible teaching church, but are its members growing in love and unity? In chapter 1 - 3 or Ephesians, Paul has taught and prayed. Now beginning chapter 4, he begins to exhort the church. How can we grow together as a church?
